How Many Zeros Are In A Billion?

By Pastor Bruce Oyen

I heard on today's news that the earth's population is now estimated to be 7 billion. How many zeros are in a billion? The answer is given below in red. The information was obtained from this website:  http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_zeros_are_there_in_a_billion. To read all the information given, click on the link given above. Here is the information:
There are 9 in the US, but possibly 12 in other countries, because there are two scales that use the same number names. The short scale advances names by thousands (thousand, million, billion, trillion, quadrillion) while the long scale advances numbers by millions, with intermediate names (e.g. milliard) for the thousands of those units.

--- Short Scale ---

In the 'short scale', a million is a thousand thousand, and a billion is a thousand million.
million 1,000,000 (6 zeros)
billion 1,000,000,000 (9 zeros)
trillion 1,000,000,000,000 (12 zeros)

*All English speaking countries now use the short scale.
(Britain changed to the short scale in 1974.)
(Some non-English speaking countries [Brazil, Bulgaria, Estonia, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Myanmar, Romania, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and Wales] call the 9 zero number a billion (or sometimes a milliard) and the 12 zero number a trillion. Greece also uses the short scale, but with different names.)
It is mind boggling to think that the earth's population is now 7,000,000,000!!!!!! That is right, the earth's population is now 7,000,000,000!!!!!
Now, how many of those persons does the Bible say God wants to save? How many does it say Jesus Christ died to save? The answers to these questions are found in the following verses.
1 Timothy 2:4 - 6 tells us that God "will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time."
Hebrews 2:9 says "But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man."
2 Peter 3:9 says "The Lord is......not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."

1 John 2:2 says this of the Lord Jesus Christ: "And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world."
John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life."
John 3:17 says, "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved."
It is clearly stated in these Bible verses that God wants to save every person, and that Jesus Christ died to save every person.
In other words, salvation is available to all 7 billion of us!!!! That's right, it is available to all 7,000,000,000 of us!!!!
If you are not yet saved, the Bible says "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved." (Acts 16:31.) All opportunities to be saved end at death. If you die unsaved, your soul will go to hell for eternity. Therefore, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ now, while you have opportunity to do so.
